PORTARLINGTON RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB
2nds game    Port 20    edenderry 3

Port continued with their search of a league double when the overcame a very tough physical and fit edenderry side yesterday in a good entertaining game played in a sporting manner. This win leaves port in 2nd place in the league 5points behind leaders coolmine with a game in hand.

Port began the game well and tried to move the ball fast and keep it away from the bigger edenderry pack, but it was edenderry who opening the scoring when port were penalised for playing the ball on the ground and edenderrys outhalf had no hesitation in spliting the posts with his kick.Port began to increase the pace of the game and with their linesout far superior won alot of ball for their fast experienced backs to run at edenderry and were causing alot of problems.Edenderrys discipline was letting them down and were conceding alot of penalties and proved costly for them when darren bracken converted two to leave the score 6-3 heading to half time.Port did break the game line when sean geogheon touched down under the posts for an excellent try,so with half time called port now had a good lead of 10points with the wind at their backs for the 2nd half.

The 2nd half was all port and time and again the attacked edenderry at every opportunity and it was the final pass that was letting them down to increase their lead. With time almost up,port did get their 2nd try when paul mannion went over and when darren bracken kicked the conversion the ref called time on a good win.

Port will be delighted with the win and their performance but will feel alittle bit hard done by not securing that bonus point when the had so many chances to score tries which would have left them in a great position to get back to top position in the league.

The performance itself was very impressive with the linesout been very good and this gave port the foundation to play their fast open game and if the can continue with these performances could find themselves getting a good cup run.

Port has a team were very good and had some outstanding performances with darren bracken, joander brazon, barry murphy and darren hennessy in the forwards and in the backs billy walsh, paul mannion, ronan mannion, sean geogheon and ciaran kiely were very good.
